Valentino is 16 years old and has lung cancer. Valentino lives in one of the poor suburbs of Wellington in the Western Cape, in conditions in which nobody should live, let alone someone with a dread disease like Childhood Cancer and a severely impaired immune system.
Valentino lives with his 90 year old blind grandmother, his unemployed single mother and various other siblings and family members, totalling 20 people in the household.
When we tell people that LFCT feeds a lot of families and ask for donations to help us to provide our beneficiaries with the basic needs, or with little presents at Christmas, people do not understand why we need so much – THIS IS WHY!!!
How can we send food only for the Child with Cancer, or even just for Valentino and his immediate family? Short answer – we CANNOT!! Therefore, we send this Beneficiary Family a Family Care Package every month with sufficient food, toiletries and cleaning materials for ALL of them every month.
The amount of Beneficiary Families that LFCT helps has more than tripled since the start of COVID and the donations have all but dried up, including the great ongoing food donations we depended on to help our Families, as there are so many people in South Africa that need assistance now.
