440 Kms in Under 24 Hours
There are 6 stages to Francois’ 24 Hour Challenge for Childhood Cancer Awareness:
Leg 1: Hoedspruit to Ohringstad – 87.2 km – DONE!
Leg 2: Ohringstad to Lydenburg – 48.6 km – DONE!
Leg 3: Lydenburg to Dullstroom – 56.1 km
Leg 4: Dullstroom to Carolina – 83.6 km
Leg 5: Carolina to Ermelo – 66.2 km
Leg 6: Ermelo to Volksrust – 99 km
Francois will afford himself a 15 minute break in-between each of the phases. The pace will be approximately 23-25km/hour, and he has allowed for an additional 4 hours within the 24 hour limit for eventualities.
Francois took strain on the second leg due to severe cramping, which is probably as a result of the extreme heat today, even though he was well cared for and did hydrate regularly. That is fine though, he soldiered on and did the last 30 kms without taking a break even once!
It has been decided that he will take a bit of a longer break at this stop to ensure that he is in perfect physical condition before heading out on Leg 3, so we wish him a good break and strength and fortitude for what is still to come.
In the meantime his support group continues to send him well-wishes and Mandie is still forwarding some amazing messages that have been recorded especially for him by our Little Fighters and their Families.
Francois you are AMAZING!!! Keep the Faith, Bru and do it for the Kids!!
And its off to Dullstroom in Leg 3…
Francois is being accompanied by one support vehicle, generously sponsored by KIA SOUTH AFRICA, and two support crew, who are making sure that he has fresh clothes, keeps hydrated, and has a constant supply of high-energy fast meals; they are also looking after his general safety and well-being whilst on the road. THANK YOU to all of you who are supporting this amazing young man on the road!!!
