On Saturday South Africa took part in a great battle – the one on the international rugby field – and emerged victorious – Congrats Bokke, we are all extremely proud of you!!
It was great to see the Spirit of 55 000 plus Saffas carry our boys to victory, but it also made me really sad because there are other warriors fighting much bigger battles every day of their lives – where is THEIR support? Where is the Spirit of a Nation to help THEM win their Battle for LIFE?
Ubuntu (Zulu pronunciation: [ùɓúntʼù]) is a Nguni Bantu term meaning “humanity.” It is often translated as “I am because we are,” or “humanity towards others,” but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”
We spend every day trying to help our beneficiaries in whichever way we can, and there is so much need in the Childhood Cancer Community, but we sometimes feel we are fighting an uphill battle with no support, like we are sitting in a boat in the middle of a lake, and people are watching and applauding from the shore yet nobody thinks that the boat actually needs oars to move… without funding we can do NOTHING!!
Childhood Cancer is stealing our future from us yet there is minimal government help and even the corporates seem to ignore the fact that there is a Childhood Cancer Crisis in South Africa!!!
Families are being torn apart by a disease that they have no way of fighting, and in this economic climate they have no chance whatsoever because Childhood Cancer affects the WHOLE FAMILY!!!
Yes, there are government hospitals, and yes treatment in them is at minimal cost or even free for some, but there are many other costs involved when it comes to Childhood Cancer:
- Childhood Cancer requires around the clock care – most of the time one of the parents, generally the mother, has to leave their employment = the family income being severely depleted.
- Many Children with Cancer stay in the hospital for up to two years at a time, which means that the mother must stay at the hospital with them.
- Regular hospital visits for treatments/check-ups, petrol/transport money to and from hospital, specific dietary needs, clothing/equipment and medication needs all add to the financial stress.
- Siblings at home suffer as there is insufficient money for daily living, let alone for school needs. There is often no food in the home; many Families are evicted or lose their homes due to insufficient funds. Imagine the chaos in a Family where it is a single-parent family.
Too many of our Children are dying from Childhood Cancer due to a lack of Awareness around the Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer – Early Diagnosis Saves Lives!!
Today we are asking YOU to join Team LFCT and support us with the same Spirit that you supported the Springbok Rugby Team and to make a difference by making a donation. What can YOU do to help?
R100 will buy Airtime so that a Mom at her child’s hospital bedside can stay in touch with her family at home
R200 will help us print and disseminate Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer pamphlets
R500 will pay for a Bag of Hope for a Child with Cancer in hospital
R1 000 will pay for a Bag of Hope for a Mother sitting beside her child’s hospital bed
R2 000 will provide the Family of a Child with Cancer with Basic Groceries for a Month
Donate as an individual, get your friends and family involved, donate as a business or get your firm/company/organisation to donate and keep the Spirit of Ubuntu going!
