We receive so many e-mails, messages and Facebook comments asking us how people can help the Little Fighters Cancer Trust to continue doing the work that we do – supporting Children with Cancer and their Families…
There are various methods of getting involved, as explained on our Get Involved pages:
” People are always asking how they can get involved with the work that we do – there are many ways in which any individual can support LFCT – there is no such thing as too little help – every small token of support, every small donation all goes towards the bigger picture – never think that you cannot help because every single person can offer something … “
Apart from product donations that we use for our outreaches, the Little Fighters Cancer Trust, like all non-profit organisations, also needs financial help to be able to do what we do…. While we do attempt to get as much product donated as possible, and to also get sponsors for whatever we can, there is still a need for cold hard cash to enable us to provide all the services we can to our Little Fighters and their Families.
What do we do with the Money you Donate?
Financial Contributions received go towards the following:
- Transport costs to and from hospitals/clinics for the child with cancer and his/her bedside carer;
- Accommodation and food costs for the bedside carer while the child is in hospital;
- Petrol, medical bills and medical equipment such as wheelchairs, special beds etc. for our Little Fighters
- Purchasing more product for our projects where required, as we almost never get sufficient product donated;
- Birthday Bashes, Last Wishes, etc.
- Financial Contributions towards Funeral Costs.
Strangely enough, like any other business or organisation, LFCT also has overheads that need to be covered (and which most donors/corporations do not cover) such as rent, electricity, stationery, packaging, equipment, and salaries (which are around 30% of what staff would earn in a corporate environment), as well as fuel, etc.
Fundraising is not easy, and it is getting more and more difficult every year, but without funds we cannot continue this integral support to those who most need it….
While it is great to get large donations, they are few and far between – sometimes it is the continuous small donations that get an organisation like ours through the tough times….
How Can YOU Help?
Money is tight, this we know, but everyone can basically afford R100 per month, and if enough people donate this nominal amount every month it will go a LONG way towards enabling LFCT to continue doing what we do best – support Children with Cancer and their Families.
We have in excess of 15, 000 followers on Facebook alone – if just 10% donated R100 per month it would amount to R150 000 per month – this could provide ALL of our families with a decent Family Care Package plus allow us to purchase some of our other needs such as clothing, blankets, pediasure etc. for those who need it, plus help us with some of our overheads.
What can one buy with R100 in South Africa today?
- A Big Mac and Coke
- A Bottle of Wine (Mid-Range)
- 30 Eggs, a Loaf of Bread and a Litre of Milk
- 2 Packs of Cigarettes
- 1 kg of Cheese….
Let’s face it, R100 does not go very far these days, so why not make YOUR R100 COUNT by donating it to an organisation that makes a difference in SO MANY lives?
