So last week we told you that we have been busy in the background throughout this very strict lockdown under which we all find ourselves due to the coronavirus…
One of the results of the lockdown is that we have not been able to do business-as-usual, we had to shut up shop which forms a big part of our income, and because everyone else was also under lockdown and very few businesses were actually able to conduct business, donations also dwindled to basically nothing during this time.
All of this forced us to take a hard look at where we were and what we could do to save the organisation so that we did not have to close our doors permanently as so many non-profits have been forced to do due to the #lockdown.
Well, the first thing we had to do was cut down on overheads (which most donors apparently seem to think an NPO somehow does not need anyway, as they are loathe to donate for this purpose), so GONE is the office and shop.
Team LFCT is still doing the best we can to support our Beneficiaries, but we are now doing this remotely – we are all working from our homes….
Lizelma is running the organisation from her home; still assisting our beneficiaries as much as possible in whichever way possible, as well as organising deliveries of Family Care Packages to these most vulnerable members of our society.
We are still accepting donations of second-hand clothing, shoes, bric-a-brac etc. which Tiema and Suraya are still handling, except that now they are selling via manning pop-up stalls like the one that Suraya did at the last AllPay in Paarl, and from a shop set up at Tiema’s home – proceeds still go towards supporting our beneficiaries.
Please contact Lizelma on 073 729 6155 regarding dropping off goods.
While the team is taking things in their stride and utilising their own resources to ensure that our Children with Cancer and their Families still receive as much help as possible, there are still costs that need to be covered – people still need to eat and to pay rent; we still need to purchase various items for our beneficiaries to fill in where product donations fall short; we still need to transport goods, etc etc.
