The response to the 2014 Get Wrapped project was so amazing that LFCT was able to gift every child in the paediatric oncology wards, as well as day patients and clinic patients, PLUS every mommy, with a lovely, warm blanket. In some of the areas we were able to include bed-socks, scarves and beanies as well.
The Hospitals we managed to reach with the 2014 GET WRAPPED Project are:
Cape Town (120 blankets)
Red Cross, Tygerberg and St Joseph’s Home (Although not a Hospital, it houses up to 80 Children with Cancer Annually)
Port Elizabeth (70 blankets)
Dora Nginza and St George’s
Durban (100 blankets)
Parklands and Albert Luthuli
Bloemfontein (70 blankets)
Pretoria (60 blankets)
Unitas and Tswane Hospital
Johannesburg (40 blankets)
Charlotte Maxeke (Old JHB Gen)
There were plenty of smiles, snuggles and happy little hearts, but one story in particular touched our hearts:
One Little Fighter in Isolation, to whom we could only wave through the window, immediately grabbed the soft and fluffy blanket she was gifted, and held it to her face, enjoying the softness with a huge smile. It was the most beautiful wave we have ever gotten through the little glass window in a closed door.
