If you are living in the southern hemisphere you will most probably have felt the chilliness of winter creeping in, especially at night time. The days are growing shorter and the evenings and early mornings are decidedly cold, and it will not be long before the days are the same and we will be fully into another cold, wet winter.
While most of us do not like Winter because we get cold feel miserable, Winter is far worse for Children with Cancer because they feel the cold far worse, even when they are in hospital because of the harsh cancer treatments that they are undergoing.
Many of our Little Fighters also suffer greatly when at home because they live under circumstances that are not ideal for healthy individuals, never mind a small child fighting cancer, due to poverty. Many of them live in tiny, draughty homes that may also become flooded when it rains hard; this adds to their discomfort and is also dangerous as their immune systems are already compromised from the treatment; should they then get a cold or contract influenza, it can have a devastating affect on their health.
The Little Fighters Cancer Trust’s annual Get WRAPPED Project is one that we are very passionate about as through it we manage to annually gift thousands of Little Fighters in Paediatric Oncology Wards across the country, their bedside care-givers, and all our LFCT Families at home, with a soft, new cuddly blanket to keep them warm through winter.
In 2015 we gifted close on 3 000 new single bed blankets and we would like to repeat that effort this year!
