Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.

Lent starts today, Wednesday, 6 March and ends on Thursday, 18 April this year.

The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer for Easter through prayer, doing penance, repentance of sins, alms-giving, and self-denial. Most Catholics choose to stop eating a favourite food or pursuing a favourite activity.

However, you can also choose to do something instead that will not only make you feel good but will also help those most in need – Children with Cancer & their families!

GIVING Options

In the spirit of Lent, the spirit of which is based on sacrifice, we have come up with two options for everyone to REALLY make a difference this Lent!!

Option 1

For each of the 40 Days of Lent, find something in your home or closet that is still in good condition but which you no longer need, and place it in a box!

At the end of the 40 Days, donate that box of goodies to the Little Fighters Cancer Trust Pre-Loved Shop!!

LFCT sells books, toys, clothing, sports equipment, gardening tools, tools, kitchen utensils, crockery & cutlery, bric-a-brac, glasses, electronics, and anything else that is hiding in the back of your closet/garage/store-room (please only goods in working order).

100% of income goes to our Children with Cancer & their Families

Option 2

If you are able to and would prefer donating NEW goods which will go directly to our Beneficiaries, LFCT will be spreading love and Winter Warmth again this winter, and we need goodies for our Share the Warmth outreach to approximately 2 000 beneficiaries.

Your Lent “alms-giving” could consist of donating 40 items of winter goodies for our beneficiaries – get your family and friends, work colleagues and sports-team involved too to make up the numbers…

Requirements for our Winter Warmth Outreach are:

Any of the following for children ages 0 – 18 yrs:

  • Boys and Girls Underwear, all sizes
  • Boys and Girls Socks, all sizes
  • Long sleeved vests, all sizes

“No act of virtue can be great if it is not followed by advantage for others. So, no matter how much time you spend fasting, no matter how much you sleep on a hard floor and eat ashes and sigh continually, if you do no good to others, you do nothing great.”
~ John Chrysostom ~
