Little Fighter Kenzo Phillips was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in February 2016, at a mere 8 months of age.
Kenzo has gone through much in his short lifespan, including harsh chemotherapy treatments, and has seen more hospitals and doctors than any child should…
Earlier this month LFCT celebrated with Kenzo and his family at the news that, after his annual 4 weekly check-up – a full month after his final chemo treatment – His blood counts were perfect and the doctors were very happy – his Bone Marrow Biopsy also came back CLEAR!!!!!
Cancer is fickle however, and a mere FIVE DAYS later Kenzo was rushed to hospital with a terrible headache & vomiting.
Kenzo was admitted, bloods were taken and he was checked for signs of infection. His CT Scan came back clear, but although his Lumbar Puncture (Spinal Tap) showed no sign of infection, cells were found and sent for tests.
Upon examination of the cells, it was determined that they were Leukaemia Cells, which means that Kenzo has relapsed
In the latest update from Kenzo’s mommy, she let us know that his Leukaemia has unfortunately spread to his Cerebro Spinal Fluid (CSF).
Cerebro Spinal Fluid is the fluid that flows in and around the hollow spaces of the brain and spinal cord, and between two of the meninges (the thin layers of tissue that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord).
CSF is made by tissue called the choroid plexus in the ventricles (hollow spaces) in the brain.
ALL rarely spreads to other organs, but:
- If ALL spreads to the brain and spinal cord it can cause headaches, weakness, seizures, vomiting, trouble with balance, facial numbness, or blurred vision.
- ALL may spread to the chest cavity, where it can cause fluid buildup and trouble breathing.
- Rarely, ALL may spread to the skin, eyes, testicles, kidneys, or other organs.
May Kenzo be wrapped in God’s love,
Found deep in His everlasting wings,
Carried and kept, safe and cherished.
May the healing power of Christ
Breathe across his being now.
While we await further updates as to Kenzo’s condition and further treatment, we ask that all of our Little Fighter Supporters please keep Kenzo and his Family in your Thoughts and Prayers.
